GREAT AT DEFENCE

Sporting Kansas City have been extremely good as a defensive unit and this has been a major reason towards the club going top of the table after this weekend’s results.

However, their goalkeeper Eric Kronberg has had little to do using this period. The one major task he has been required to do is maintain his concentration levels despite staying ideal for most of the 90 minutes. Such has been the domination of Kansas City in the defensive area of the pitch. The club has conceded just six goals in the opening 8 matches of the season.

Their latest clean sheet came against Columbus Crew during the weekend. Club manager Peter Vermes said after the 2-0 win over Columbus that Kronberg has to be praised a lot for keeping his concentration. He had to make only four major saves during the entire 90 minutes – something that was tipped heavily by the guys at the nederland chili odds website.

After being the second choice goalkeeper for the last seven years, Kronberg appears to have taken his chance with both hands. Even though the results seemed extremely comfortable, Columbus put on a major fight towards the end of the match. Kronberg had to stay strong in order to protect his goal.

Kronberg said after the latest training session that he just tries to keep his composure and put his faith on his teammates.

“The big thing is, we don’t give up a lot. And it’s very difficult for a goalkeeper to keep himself in the game and make the saves that he needs to at the right time,” said the Kansas City manager. “Sure, there’s difficulty in keeping your head in the game, but I try to make sure I’m communicating with my team and staying focused and making sure I’m connected with the game. That’s kind of how I stay in the game,” said the goalkeeper himself.
