CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: PHILADELPHIA BEAT ATLANTA UNITED

In the battle of two MLS football teams in the CONCACAF Champions League, Philadelphia Union took a big lead against Atlanta United at the end of their first leg clash in Atlanta on Tuesday.

It was a disappointing result for Gabriel Heinzewho was appointed as the new Atlanta United manager at the end of last year. The Argentine manager has never managed in MLS football until now. His team conceded three goals without any reply to leave them on the brink of elimination from the CONCACAF Champions League.

KacperPrzybylko was the man responsible for inflicting footballing pain on Heinze and his players. He scored a brace and also provided the assist for the other goal to leave Atlanta United with a big hurdle to climb when the two teams meet again in Philadelphia for the second leg on Tuesday, May 4.

Atalanta United collapsed in the final 33 minutes of the game to give themselves a big work to do in the second leg if they want to secure a place in the semis.Przybylko tapped in from close range for the game’s opening goal on 57 minutes.He then finished off a breakaway move from 16 yards to double the lead for his team.

Przybylko then turned provider for the third and final goal of the game scored by Anthony Fonfana who put a productive end to another breakaway goal. With the result from the first leg, Philadelphia Union are on course to face either Club America of Mexico or Portland Timbers from MLS football. Portland Timbers and Club America will start their quarterfinal tie with the first leg on Wednesday.

In the other CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal first leg clash on Tuesday, Cruz Azul took a big step towards the semis with a 3-1 away win over FC Toronto. Brayan Angulo scored twice in the first half either side of the equaliser from FC Toronto player Jonathan Osorio to put  Cruz Azul 2-1 up in the first half. Pablo Aguilar then scored for the visitors on 58 minutes to secure a good lead ahead of the second leg at home.
