ARSENAL DECLARE INTEREST IN MERTENS

Arsenal have declared interest in Napoli striker, Dries Mertens. A summer approach for the player has been discussed. But they will face a tough competition from Bayern Munich and Chelsea for the player’s signature.


Dries Mertens has been very outstanding for club and country in recent seasons, he has over 100 goals for club and country in the past six seasons.

Napoli have endured a tough season so far, but Mertens has been a positive among the club, he has registered 12 goals in 28 appearances.

Mertens, 32, joined Marek Hamsik as the top scorer in Napoli’s history. His superb curled effort against Barcelona takes his tally to 121 in 310 appearances for the club. He will be looking forward to taking the number one spot as the season progresses.

Mertens was free to talk to interested parties in January but he chose to see out the remaining six-month of his contract before making the next move in his career.

Bayern Munich, Dortmund and most recently Arsenal have all declared interest in the player, and reports suggest that The Arsenal Chiefs are working towards bringing him to North London in summer.

Mertens, who turns 33 by May, is also looking at the prospect of moving to a less demanding league in a bid to prolong his playing career. Asia football and MLS football are other options available for the player.

Newly established franchise, Inter Miami have also been credited with an interest with the player. Although Napoli are said to be trying to tie him down to a new deal. But the player has stated that he is fully focused on Napoli. He wants the club to finish as high as they could in the League. Gattuso’s men are currently 6th in the table.

Mertens has revealed that all other issues will be attended to at the end of the season.
